Annett Ulrike Meier & Cornelia Theimer Gardella

»EARTH. LINE. LIGHT.«

The exhibition »Earth. Line. Light.« brings together ceramic and textile works by the artists Annett Ulrike Meier (Weimar) and Cornelia Theimer Gardella (Erfurt). The Bürgel Ceramics Museum is presenting this kind of exhibition for the first time. Both crafts are among the oldest in human history.

The earth, with its natural phenomena, its beauty, diversity, and fragility, is a source of inspiration for both artists. It is simultaneously a place of retreat and encounter. Lines, on the other hand, represent horizons, such as those experienced by the sea, in the mountains, or on the plains. They structure, delimit, and frame the works. Light is also a central guiding star in the use of natural materials, but also a bridge to color and texture.

The works of the two artists capture both expanse and proximity. A dialogue takes place between light and dark, movement and pause, color and surface, light and shadow, proximity and distance. Viewers are invited to touch the artworks with their eyes and literally immerse themselves in them. A rare and soothing poetry characterizes the works of Cornelia Theimer Gardella and Annett Ulrike Meier.

With their contemporary positions, both artists demonstrate and preserve their individual approaches, but also the points of contact and perspectives within the upheavals of the present.

The exhibition is supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia.
