Fir needles and moss – guests who throw open the window of their room at the AKZENT hotel "Am Burgholz" and take a deep breath can smell the wonderful fragrance of the forest, as the hotel is a mere 50 metres away from the forest edge, and is also surrounded by a landscaped park that extends over 45,000 square metres. In the summer, white deckchairs await occupation from sunbathers on the fresh green grass, and on some days, the park becomes an event venue for concerts and other cultural offers. The hotel guests can also listen to these from one of the three terraces that belong to the long building. "It was built in 1953 as a holiday camp. After that, it was an education centre for a long time," explains its owner Mario Peschke. Thanks to its history and unusual architecture, the hotel is now a listed building where guests enjoy the quiet and the close proximity to nature in light rooms with contemporary furniture. It not only offers single and double rooms but also large family rooms for a comfortable holiday with the whole family.

Gypsum was once mined in Friedrichroda. The former Marienglashöhle mine is now open to visitors. The sparkling crystal grotto is an absolute highlight.
